Company’s financial needs met
Since many people seem to struggle with supply, I would like to share a significant healing I had in this area several years ago.
I am the founder and CEO of a global company, and at that time we were in a high-growth stage. Like many start-up businesses, we needed to raise capital for our expansion. Many entrepreneurs are taught that the path to raising capital is to prepare a presentation, financial projections, a pitch, and then present your proposal to potential investors. Many entrepreneur friends have told me how exhausting and disempowering this process can be.
However, I have often prayed with this idea from Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer of Christian Science: “God’s ways are not as our ways; …” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 158). This idea has often led me to do things in a way that might seem unconventional.
I prepared our presentation, financials, and the pitch, along with a list of qualities I was looking for in investors. But instead of being led to get out and “hustle” for investment in the traditional way—which was for a large sum of money—I felt guided to be still and pray.
For many months I prayed frequently to gain a better understanding of the divine law of supply and demand. However, one mid-April day, we finally ran out of cash, and I had no prospects for investors. Rent, payroll, and other bills were all due in just two weeks. I recall sitting in my living room, praying—and laughing. I laughed at error because all around me I saw evidence of God’s goodness despite what the sense-testimony was saying. Just that day, in fact, we had four global news articles come out about our company and all the good we were doing, and here was error trying to convince me we lacked!
However, I would not take the bait. I refused to accept the mistaken concept that we were lacking and needed to get supply, and instead affirmed that supply was an ever-present divine law that I could see operating right now. I expressed gratitude to God for bringing that supply directly to me.
I also refused to give in to the belief that I needed to use mere human effort to advance our work. I wanted any action I took to be a result of prayer and divine direction, not human will or my best human efforts. I adamantly, repeatedly, and confidently declared that in reality all business, that is, Mind’s right activity, was in Mind and governed by Mind, and that meant we had access to infinite supply right now. To demonstrate this required a deeper spiritual understanding on my part, because I felt an overwhelming fear and pressure for the success of my business and our team. I turned my whole thought to the divine reality and completely abandoned worry about the material picture. There was no other choice.
Just then the phone rang. It was a successful businesswoman I hadn’t spoken to in years. She’d seen the press about our company and called to congratulate me. I thanked her, and then she asked, “How is your financial situation?”
I told her that we needed to raise a large sum of money to continue to stay in business. She told me she wasn’t in a position to help, but that I should send her the presentation and she would pass it along to another investor. We agreed to talk in three days.
That night before bed, I had an intuition, an angel message from God, that this woman would invest a certain amount in our company, even though she told me she didn’t have it.
When we spoke three days later, she told me she wanted to invest the exact amount that had come to my thought, and that she would overnight a check to take care of all our immediate needs. She had also found another investor who wanted to invest the remaining amount. Both of them possessed all the qualities I was looking for in an investor.
This healing proved to me that the demonstration of supply doesn’t come through great human effort, but through prayer and a better understanding of God and His ability to meet all of our needs.
